Tobias Strobl

Tobias Strobl (born May 12, 1990, in Munich) is a former German football player who last played as a defensive utility player for FC Augsburg.

He began his youth career at SV Aubing at the age of six and later moved to TSV 1860 Munich in 2000, while also briefly excelling as a championship-winning junior golfer before fully committing to football.

After progressing through the youth ranks at 1860 Munich, he joined the U23 team in the Regionalliga Süd, making his debut in May 2009 and eventually appearing in 59 matches for the reserve side.

In the summer of 2011, he transferred to TSG Hoffenheim, where he starred for the second team and made his Bundesliga debut on February 11, 2012, against Werder Bremen.

He spent the 2012/13 season on loan at 1. FC Köln in the 2. Bundesliga, gaining valuable regular playing time before returning to Hoffenheim to score his first Bundesliga goal and establish a stronger foothold in the top flight.

In 2016, he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he became a key starter in defensive midfield and central defense, representing the club in European competitions despite battling serious knee injuries later in his tenure.

He joined FC Augsburg on a three-year deal in June 2020, but persistent injuries—including a severe cruciate ligament tear in November 2021—ultimately led him to announce his retirement from professional football on May 19, 2023.
